Erin Petson

Erin Petson's work is just beautiful. I can stare at it for hours... not only because it's pretty amazing but also because i am in awe of the way she combines controlled line work with unpredictable splashes and swooshes... yum.

the age of feminine drawing

I have just come back from a little holiday in queensland which was utter and pure bliss!!! my week was full of lazing in the sun, silly dancing, laughing and inappropriate conversations... perfect!

Through exploring the West End of Brisbane, my friends and i found THE best bookstore ever, called the Avid Reader. They had such a huge design, art, craft section AND you get your book in a thick brown paper bag... OH I LIKEY!

so here are a few pics of my purchase, The Age of Feminine Drawing. If you like dreamy illustrations, you have to get your hands on it. It is a showcase of over 100 artists work and includes some of my faves like Stina Persson, Audrey Kawasaki and Erin Petson.

It was released in 2007 and i hear that the follow up... New age of feminine drawings is just about to be unleashed. This is possibly one of the best books i have ever bought, not only for the inspiring content but for the stock used and all the little details.

Ahhhhh, i think i am in love...

A friend and i have started this little tradition of emailing our random sketches/paintings to each other as works in progress, it is such a nice relief from the... can you design this by yesterday email (eeek), or those lovely ones that go somewhat along the lines of "hello my name is Ahmed Zongo and i have a business proposition for you, please just help me transfer millions of squillions somewehere".

no. not right now. i am busy.

Sweet Hearts

Here is sweet heart, i don't think i have put her up yet, my ode to all the wonderfully sweet people out there with big hearts.

Thanks to Daydream Lily, a beautiful and inspiring blog which i have been following since i discovered blog world not to long ago... thanks for saying such sweet words about my art, pretty much made my day (probably my month, it could be safe to say my year!)

the tallest man on earth

drawing + tunes = bliss.

I have been exposing my eyes and ears to 'the tallest man on earth', solo swedish man Kristian Mattson can pen a tune and a half and is um... pretty nice on the eye. I am sure he is the lovechild of Bob Dylan and José González, if that was possible.

sydney road trip!

I am soooo lucky and grateful that i get to be part of LeeLoo's Once Upon exhibition in sydney on nov 19th! It is being held to celebrate their 2nd birthday and the theme is fairy tales.

I will be exhibiting along side of some amazing illustrators who i admire such as Bec Winnel aka My Charlie Girl, Alicia Rosam, Tabitha Emma and Jessica Hyde aka truth.be.told

All artists have been allocated a fairy tale to interpret in their style... and i am totally and utterly chuffed that i got snow white....

prince, dwarf and shiny red apples! could it get any sweeter! ahhhhhhh so happy.

Crochet Cobwebs

I have a small obsession with doilies, so you can imagine my pure joy and awe when i saw this! Titled 'Auntie Peggy Has Departed' i think it is amazingly gorgeous and painstakingly beautiful. Made with cotton in Aldwych Tube Station, the Strand, London by Shane Waltener. I love the beautiful description of doilies to...

"Doilies are like dreamcatchers,
each knot holding a thought, a memory.
The sum of these make up the history of a place"

Sweet Cherry Pie

I have been up to my neck in thread over the last couple of weeks as my house has been transformed by a fabric, watercolour and pencil explosion. It looks like a war zone (a very colourful one) and is not without its hazards - beware of stray pins that launch themselves into your innocent and unaware bare foot. Ouch, in the paper-cut kinda way.

BUT, its all worth it... as now i get to introduce you to Miss Cherry Pie.

She, and 6 other pieces created for Little Whispers will be on show at Cibo, Gouger St Adelaide for the SALA festival from the 7th to the 23rd of August.
